Massage Therapy AAS Program in the CUNY System

It’s not well enough known that Queensborough Community College offers a degree program in Healing Arts / Massage Therapy at its campus in Bayside, Queens.  This a 2-year professional program, registered with the NY State Dept of Ed, that qualifies graduates to sit for the licensing exam for massage therapy.  The curriculum complies with the New York regulations for Massage Therapy just like any other New York massage school, yet its CUNY tuition makes it so much more affordable than the private massage schools in the New York City area with tuitions in the neighborhood of $23,000.  And yet the program doesn’t have a long waiting list of prospective students.

Queensborough’s Healing Arts / Massage Therapy program has recently added 4 new elective courses to prepare graduates for more specialized practice.  HA207 Hospital-Based Massage focuses on oncology massage at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset.  HA206 Pregnancy Massage will prepare students to work with women with healthy pregnancies as well as women with complications at North Shore’s OB-GYN department.  HA209 Thai Massage Therapy enhances students’ learning experiences with a beautiful ancient healing art that’s popular in spas and private practices.  HA208 Sports Massage gives students the outstanding opportunity to work hands on with QCC’s performing arts dance majors as well as the college’s champion athletes.

The Healing Arts / Massage Therapy program resides in a little niche in the Heath, Physical Education, and Dance Department at the back of the campus in the Robert F. Kennedy gym building.  Across the parking lot advanced students in QCC’s Student Massage Therapy Clinic provide supervised treatments to the campus community as well as the general public for about half the fee charged by professional LMTs.

The college in Bayside is somewhat off the beaten path, but so worth making the trek for CUNY’s only Massage Therapy Program.

  12. ‘ you may laugh at the infomercials, but Sham – Wow is
actually a good paper towel substitute. Preparation method: Take finely chopped onions in a bowl and add yogurt, grated coconut,
green chili and salt to taste. In a casserole, bring to boil 2 cup of water with chicken feet,
put fire into low and simmer 10 minute.

  16. Epson’s Picture – Mate is but one of the most widely used 4×6 photo printers available on the market today. HP offers whatever they call an Ink Amnesty program – where they have consumers take a quiz about issues with non OEM ink and offer the customer the coupon for an OEM cartridge after finishing. In the late 1980’s,
the digital printing pioneers happened to be looking for a new identity for the beautiful prints they had worked so
    hard to achieve.

  27. Hi Shama,

Private schools are generally more expensive than public schools. City University used to offer free tuition, but now the public funds are being slashed so the tuition is going up, but not as high as the tuition in private schools.

  28. Thanks that is a good tip. Tuitions of $23,000 for massage training – I don’t know, but that seems to be on the extreme end of the spectrum. But requirements for massage hours and tuitions have been going up for some time in many states steadily. I wonder if this really produces better therapists or just more profit for schools.
