Massage Therapy AAS Program in the CUNY System

It’s not well enough known that Queensborough Community College offers a degree program in Healing Arts / Massage Therapy at its campus in Bayside, Queens.  This a 2-year professional program, registered with the NY State Dept of Ed, that qualifies graduates to sit for the licensing exam for massage therapy.  The curriculum complies with the New York regulations for Massage Therapy just like any other New York massage school, yet its CUNY tuition makes it so much more affordable than the private massage schools in the New York City area with tuitions in the neighborhood of $23,000.  And yet the program doesn’t have a long waiting list of prospective students.

Queensborough’s Healing Arts / Massage Therapy program has recently added 4 new elective courses to prepare graduates for more specialized practice.  HA207 Hospital-Based Massage focuses on oncology massage at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset.  HA206 Pregnancy Massage will prepare students to work with women with healthy pregnancies as well as women with complications at North Shore’s OB-GYN department.  HA209 Thai Massage Therapy enhances students’ learning experiences with a beautiful ancient healing art that’s popular in spas and private practices.  HA208 Sports Massage gives students the outstanding opportunity to work hands on with QCC’s performing arts dance majors as well as the college’s champion athletes.

The Healing Arts / Massage Therapy program resides in a little niche in the Heath, Physical Education, and Dance Department at the back of the campus in the Robert F. Kennedy gym building.  Across the parking lot advanced students in QCC’s Student Massage Therapy Clinic provide supervised treatments to the campus community as well as the general public for about half the fee charged by professional LMTs.

The college in Bayside is somewhat off the beaten path, but so worth making the trek for CUNY’s only Massage Therapy Program.
